Entry requirements
​

Students who enter any of the Academic English Preparation programmes must have regularly attended school in their home country. 
Students will be required to provide a school report that confirms that they are achieving against educational standards corresponding to their age

 

1. The Academic English Preparation for Intermediate School Studies 


Programme consists of 3 modules: 
English for Schools Starter (23 hours * 12 weeks) (pre NQF level Q1)
English for Schools level 1 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (pre NQF level Q1)
English for Schools level 2 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (Equivalent to NQF Level Q 1)

Students will be placed in classes according to their age to ensure that the learning content is appropriate for their level. Therefore within each class there may be students at more than one language level. 
The learning outcomes have been designed to facilitate the teaching of mixed language levels and are grouped into the same elements, and will be taught in the same topic areas.

The Academic English Preparation for Intermediate School Studies programme is based on the CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH FOR SCHOOLS series which was chosen because it links the language learning activities to the school curriculum. 
The series of books called RESOURCE BOOKS FOR TEACHERS GAMES FOR CHILDREN, PROJECTS WITH YOUNG LEARNERS.
The materials are written specifically for ESOL teachers.

2. The Academic English Preparation for High School Studies Programme


Consists of 4 modules: 
English for Schools Level 2 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (Equivalent to NQF Level Q1)
English for schools Level 3 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (Equivalent to NQF Level Q2)
English for Schools Level 4 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (Equivalent to NQF Level Q3)
English for Schools Level 5 (23 hours * 12 weeks) (Equivalent to NQF Level Q4)

 

Students will be placed in classes according to their language level. Consideration of the student's age will be taken into account when choosing appropriate additional materials.

 

There is some overlap between the modules offered at this level and those offered at Intermediate School level. This is because students arriving from overseas at Intermediate/High School age have widely differing expertise in English. It is important for these students to be studying with their peer group and therefore provision has been made for the different language levels of the students.

 

The Academic English Preparation for High School Studies programme is based on the CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH FOR SCHOOLS series which was chosen because it links the language learning activities to the school curriculum. 
The course incorporates a variety of learning strategies for academic study.

These include

  • Language Structure and Vocabulary Skills

  • Intensive and extensive reading

  • English for school subjects such as Geography, History, Environmental studies

  • Presentation of speeches and seminars

​

All three Academic Preparation for School programmes have been critiqued by an advisory group of experts in the field. The panel consisted of two experienced school ESOL practitioners and an academic expert in the field.

Tuition Fee
 

  • Full Time Fee:                    $330 (NZD) per week

  • Course Registration:          $150 (NZD)

  • Course Book:                     $120 (NZD) for 2 books, one term

  • Student Insurance:             $364 (NZD) for 6 months

  • Homestay Arrangement:    $350 (NZD)

  • Homestay Fee:                   $350 (NZD) per week

  • We have an outdoor activity two times a term during your course.
